NEW JERSEY CENTER FOR TOURETTE SYNDROME
In 2004 -- with support from the NJ Department of Health and Human Services -- TSANJ created a better way to help NJ families and individuals with TS.
The idea for a Center of Excellence, offering a range of coordinated services was born. And now NJCTS -- the first and only program of its kind in the nation -- has grown into an exciting model that puts New Jersey at the forefront of addressing the need for more effective treatment options, support and professional assistance for those with TS and their families.
This collaboration among TSANJ, Rutgers University and health professionals throughout New Jersey, unites the resources of Rutgers University.Graduate school of Applied and Practical Psychology, NJ teaching hospitals, the world first TS genetics repository, and TSANJ.
The New Jersey Center provides referrals for diagnosis and treatment services, training for a new generation of professionals qualifiedto work with individuals with TS, and insights that can lead to better treatments or even a cure.
Services provided through NJCTS include
- Coordinated family services including advocacy, education and support programs
- Referrals for medical diagnosis and treatment
- Psychological services
- Coordinated services among partner and community organizations throughout the state
- On-site in-service training for teachers, school nurses and school supervisory staff
- Education and training to develop a new generation of professionals knowledgeable about TS and associated disorders
- Hospital grand rounds, seminars and other educational programs for physicians,educators and mental health professionals
- NJCTS Sharing Repository - the world first sharing resource of human cells and DNA for Tourette Syndrome research. Samples are made available to qualified researchers around the world to study the genetics of TS and work toward a cure
